2011 MIAA Football Schedule
OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO football program announced the schedule for its 2011 football season on Monday, in accordance with the release of the MIAA Conference schedule.
The Mavs will play 11 games total, including 10 conference games. Six games will be played at home at Al F. Caniglia Field, while five will be played on the road. With the addition of Lincoln University to MIAA play in 2011, each team will play a 10-game conference schedule and has the option to play one non-conference opponent. Southwest Baptist will play a Division II independent schedule in 2011.
UNO opens and closes the season with back-to-back road games, but in between, the Mavs play six of seven consecutive games at home.
UNO opens the season against MIAA competition at Washburn on Saturday, Sept. 3. It will be the first time since 2007 that the Mavericks have opened the season on the road, and the first time since 2000 that they've opened the season outside the state of Nebraska (at Northwest Missouri State, 9/2/00).
The Mavs are on the road again the following week, as they face Missouri Southern at Joplin, Mo., on Sept. 10.
UNO plays its home opener on Sept. 17 against Missouri Western. That game marks the first of four consecutive home games for the Mavs. On Sept. 24, they take on Emporia State at home. Then on Oct. 1, the Mavs welcome Truman to Omaha.
On Oct. 8, UNO faces its only non-conference opponent of the season, as Sioux Falls comes to Omaha to face the Mavericks for the first time since 1947.
The Mavs are back on the road on Oct. 15 at Northwest Missouri State, but return home for games against Fort Hays State (Oct. 22) and Pittsburg State (Oct. 29).
UNO goes to Central Missouri on Nov. 5, then closes the regular season on the road against new MIAA-football member, Lincoln University, on Nov. 12.
The NCAA Division II Playoffs begin Saturday, Nov. 19. The championship game is set for Saturday, Dec. 17, at Florence, Ala.
The 2011 season will mark the first time since 1981 that the Mavs will not face Nebraska-Kearney. However, the break will be short-lived, as the Lopers are set to join MIAA play in 2012. UNO and UNK are tentatively scheduled to play on Nov. 3, 2012 in Kearney.
