Omaha Men's Basketball Trash Can Celebration Media Toolkit
2024-25 Omaha Men's Basketball Season
Omaha men's basketball has won nine-straight games dating to 12/21/24 and currently boast a 7-0 record, good for sole possession of first place in the Summit League. The 2024-25 Mavericks are now one of just five teams in program history to record a win streak of at least nine games as they are now tied with the 1981-82 and 1982-83 squads, while trailing only the 2004-05 (12) and 1983-84 (13) teams. Omaha received votes for the first time in head coach Chris Crutchfield's tenure this week in the College Inside Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.

How did the celebration begin?
Associate head coach Kyan Brown used a trash can to motivate the team prior to the team's game on Dec. 21 vs. Cal Poly when he kicked it in the locker room to motivate the team. After the game, the team called on him to bring the can back into the locker following the win. It has since evolved into a college basketball sensation with Brown kicking (field goal style), hitting (with a bat) and slamming (with a folding chair) a trash can in the locker room during the streak. "Get the can!" is a common phrase in the Mavericks' locker room postgame.
