SDSU Drops Mavericks into Last Place

Brookings, S.D. -- In a battle between the two teams at the bottom of the North Central Conference standings, South Dakota State defeated Nebraska-Omaha 3-1 (30-25, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28) Friday night, before 281 fans at Frost Arena in Brookings. South Dakota State improved to 12-13 overall and 2-6 in the NCC, while the Mavericks dropped to 10-14 overall and 1-7 in the NCC.
The Mavericks outhit (.239 to .178) and outblocked (13 to 6) the Jackrabbits but suffered 14 service errors and six blocking errors in the loss.
Junior outside hitter Amy McLeay led the Mavericks while recording her 17th double-double of the season, with 18 kills and 13 digs. Also recording double-figure kills were junior middle blocker Alyssa Matthes with 12 and Julia McConahay with 10. Both McConahay and Matthes were efficient at the net with McConahay hitting .421 (10k-2e-19a) and Matthes hitting .357 (12k-2e-28a). Matthes also registered a team-high seven blocks.
The Mavericks travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow night, Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 7 p.m. match with 17th-ranked Augustana.
