
Mavs Host NWMSU, SCSU in Final Home Matches

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team (14-8/5-4), currently tied for third place in the NCC standings, will host Northwest Missouri State (15-17) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will then host St. Cloud State (16-10/5-4) on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. in their final home match of the 2004 season. Nebraska-Omaha's four seniors: Julia McConahay, Amy McLeay, Jenny Rankin, and Andrea Wegner will be making their final home appearances on Saturday and will be honored in a short ceremony preceding the match. The Record:
Nebraska-Omaha is currently 14-8 on the season and 5-4 in the NCC after dropping a four-game decision to NCC leader South Dakota last Saturday in the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks, who are 9-4 against North Central Region opponents, are 5th in the latest NCAA II North Central Region rankings. UNO is ranked No. 24 in the most recent CSTV/AVCA top 25 poll.

Mavs Fall To NCC Leader South Dakota in Four Games:
OMAHA, Neb. - Behind a balanced offensive attack and solid defense, North Central Conference leader South Dakota defeated Nebraska-Omaha 3-1 (22-30, 30-21, 30-22, 30-12) on Saturday night before 841 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
South Dakota rebounded from a poor hitting performance in the first game, to dominate the remainder of the match. The Coyotes, who hit .000 in the opening frame, outhit Nebraska-Omaha .253 to .116 for the match, including a .500 to .025 edge in the fourth game.
The Mavericks were led by junior Heather Hainline, who recorded a career-high 13 kills, while adding three digs and two blocks. Senior Amy McLeay recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior Christie Johnson recorded 45 assists, seven digs, and four blocks. Nebraska-Omaha was led defensively by junior Chelsea Miller who tallied 20 digs.
South Dakota (15-11, 7-1 NCC) was led by outside hitters Lindsey Soukup and Kristen Miller. Both players recorded double-doubles with Soukup registering 15 kills and 20 digs, while Miller added 13 kills and 13 digs.
Libero Lacey Ross led the Coyotes in the back row with a match-high 22 digs, as South Dakota held a 76 to 66 advantage in digs for the match.
Shires Earns 300th Career Victory:
Rose Shires picked up her 300th career victory when the Mavericks swept Hillsdale 3-0 (30-17, 31-29, 30-25) on Aug. 28 at the North Alabama Classic. Shires has amassed a 310-172 (. 643) career record in her 15th season as the Mavericks' mentor. Shires, the 1996 AVCA Division II national coach of the year, is the second winningest coach in the school's history behind Janice Kruger who recorded a 352-96 mark in her nine Maverick seasons from 1979-87.
Rankin Joins 1,000-Kill Club:
With her third kill in the Mavericks' 3-0 sweep over Minnesota State on Oct. 2, outside hitter Jenny Rankin became just the 15th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. Rankin, a senior from North Platte, Neb., has now registered 1,065 kills in her four-year Maverick career.
