Mavs Regain NCC Crown

The Nebraska-Omaha women's soccer team defeated North Dakota 2-0 Saturday to capture the North Central Conference Championship in front of 324 fans at Ak-Sar-Ben Field.

Ali Portell gave UNO a 1-0 lead at 36:14 of the first half on a header in front of the net off a long kick from Meghan Pile.

Brandie Beale sealed the victory with less than five minutes to play, scoring on a long cross pass from Anne Willrett at the 85:09 mark of the final half.

Backup goaltender Jane Splittgerber recorded two saves to record her second career shutout.

Splittgerber got a little help from the UNO defense with Pile made a sliding save in front of the goal line when North Dakota caught UNO on their toes with a scramble in front of the goal.

UNO broke a streak of three-straight losses to North Dakota, dating back to last season.

NCAA Regional play begins on Friday, November 12. The Mavericks (17-3-1) are currently ranked third in the latest NCAA Regional poll and will await Monday's announcement to see where they will be assigned.
