
UNO Ends Winless Streak With 7-4 Victory

The UNO hockey team put an end to an 11-game winless streak with a 7-4 win over Alaska Fairbanks Saturday night.
Freshman Kaleb Betts netted a pair of goals and junior Ryan Bennett collected a goal and two assists to lift UNO to 7-22-5 and 5-19-4 in the CCHA.
Nebraska-Omaha jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Dan Hacker scored at 5:31 of the opening stanza. Kaleb Betts then scored the first of his two goals just 12 seconds after Hacker's tally. Freshman Scott Parse tacked on power play goal at 8:03 of the period. The three goals came within a span of 2:37, which is the fastest three goals in Maverick history. Bennett built the lead to four with a shorthanded tally at 10:12. Alaska Fairbanks went into the first intermission only down 4-2 after goals from Ryan Lang and Ryan Campbell.
The teams traded goals in the second period. Kaleb Betts gave the Mavs a 5-2 lead five minutes into the period for his second marker of the night on the power play. The Nanooks responded with a goal from Cam Keith at the 10-minute mark for a 5-3 deficit.
UAF cut UNO's lead to 5-4 on a Jared Sylvestre goal two minutes into the third period. Maverick sophomore John Thomas then gave UNO some breathing room with 9:54 remaining on a breakaway for a two-goal lead. Anthony Adams iced the game for UNO with an empty net tally with five seconds remaining.

UNO plays its final home game of the season on Tuesday night against Minnesota State, Mankato.
