Emporia State Ends UNO's Win Streak, 78-55
Dec 6, 2006 | Men's Basketball
EMPORIA, Kan. -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha saw its four-game win streak come to an end at Emporia State as the Mavericks were able to hit only 34 percent of their field goal tries, falling 78-55 Wednesday night.
UNO (6-4) battled nip-and-tuck with the Hornets (7-0) in the first half, trailing by only four at halftime, 32-28. Emporia State went on an 11-3 run late in the half to open up a seven-point lead, but a 3-pointer by Michael Jenkins just before the buzzer halted the momentum.
The Mavericks, still with only eight players healthy, were sluggish going into the second half, while the Hornets caught fire. The home team started the second half with a 12-0 run and never looked back.
Jenkins went on to lead the Mavericks with 20 points, with Jeremy Williams adding 12. UNO's leading scorer on the season, Zac Robinson, was held to just seven points and one 3-point basket. Jerry Bennett scored just four points, but had a big night crashing the boards, pulling down a season-best 13.
The Hornets had four players score in double-figures, led by Wes Book with 21.
The Mavericks will be out of action for a week and a half for final exams. They return to action Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., facing Midland Lutheran at Sapp Fieldhouse.
