Mavs Roll to 9-0 Win in Opener

Amber Richardson, Amanda Iwansky and Lindsey Nealon scored two goals apiece and Beth McGill had a goal and two assists Thursday as the No. 1 ranked Mavericks opened the season with a 9-0 non-conference win over Minnesota-Crookston at Ak-Sar-Ben Field.
UNO's next assignment will come Saturday in another non-league match at Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo.
The Mavericks (1-0) peppered Minnesota-Crookston (0-1) with 37 shot attempts and 22 shots on goal while holding the Golden Eagles without a shot attempt in the match. UMC freshman goalkeeper Athena Mussenden recorded 13 saves.
Iwansky broke the ice just 3:11 into the contest when she ripped a shot from 20 feet out in the box past Mussenden on an pass from Whitney Hill. Richardson followed, hitting the right corner on an unassisted effort at 19:58 and Beth McGill added another just 47 seconds later out of a scramble on a pass by Ali Portell.
Brandie Beale closed the first half scoring on a penalty kick at the 32-minute mark.
Iwansky and Richardson also scored the first two goals of the second half and Portell followed with a third in a span of just 14 minutes. Beth McGill had assists on the first and third goals.
Nealon, a freshman, scored her first two collegiate goals a minute apart, at 84:27 and 85:26, converting a turnover on the first and taking a pass from MaryClaire Murnan on the second.
