Mavs Win a Pair at Jennies Challenge

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The 24th-ranked UNO Maverick volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday at the Central Missouri State Jennies Challenge sweeping both Pittsburg State (30-19, 30-21, 30-20) and William Jewell (30-23, 30-25, 30-15) to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Junior middle blocker Carlie Christensen led UNO in the first match against PSU, recording 18 kills while hitting .433. Senior outside hitter Christina Reicks added 12 kills and 19 digs for her second-straight double-double. Junior setter Katie Agnew dished out 40 assists while collecting eight digs.
UNO outhit the Gorillas .262 to .090 and held a tremendous 82 to 30 advantage in digs.
In the Mavericks second match of the day against William Jewell,junior rightside hitter Nicole McLeod paced the UNO attack with nine kills on .500 hitting while adding a match-high six blocks. Christensen added seven kills while hitting .538. Reicks led the Mavericks defensively with 14 digs while collecting six kills.
The Mavericks, who defeated 10th-ranked Central Missouri State in five games on Thursday night, will stay on the road next week when they head to St. Joseph, Mo. to compete in the Missouri Western Ramada Inn Invitational on Fri.-Sat., Sept. 1-2.
