Hansen Signs Wisconsin High School Standout

University of Nebraska at Omaha head men's basketball coach Derrin Hansen announced today the signing of Alex Welhouse of Kaukauna, Wis. (Kaukauna HS) to a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball for the Mavericks beginning in the 2008-09 season.
Welhouse, a 6'6", 210-pound guard/forward, was ranked the 13th best senior in the the state of Wisconsin by Wisconsin Hoops.
"We are extremely excited to have Alex join the UNO basketball program," said Hansen. "He is a great shooter and with his size and athleticism, Alex gives us a lot of flexibility in where we can use him."
A two-year team captain, Welhouse averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game as a junior while earning second team all-conference honors in the Fox Valley Association.
The Mavericks open the 2007-08 season this weekend when they participate in the American Family Insurance Hoopster Classic in St. Cloud, Minn. UNO will play Mary at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. The Mavericks will conclude the tournament with a 6 p.m. game against Bemidji State on Saturday.
