PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team ran its record to 3-0 with a 95-71 win over Western State on the first day of the Al Kaly Shrine Classic hosted by Colorado State Pueblo. Senior #Michael Jenkins# led all Maverick scorers with 17 points.

Western State raced out to a 6-1 lead in the opening minutes of the game, but Jenkins ignited an 11-6 run with a traditional three-point play. Sophomore #Aaron Terry# led the defensive effort, pulling in 8 of his game-high 9 rebounds in the first stanza. Sophomore #Mitch Albers# led UNO with 10 points in the half as the Mavs built a 49-40 lead.

In the second half, the Mavericks poured it on. Jenkins threw in 10 of his 17 points, and UNO continued to apply the defensive pressure, holding the Mountaineers to just 36.7% shooting in the half. The Mavericks shot 64% in the second half and 57.6% for the game to pull away. Albers finished the game with 13 points while senior #Justin Petersen# chipped in 12. Terry added 10.

Justin Avalos led Western State with 17 while Jeremy Brooks finished with 14.

The Mavericks return to the court on Saturday to play host Colorado State Pueblo at 8 p.m. CST.
