OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team suffered its first loss at the Sapp Fieldhouse this season, as the Fort Hays State University Tigers defeat the Mavericks 80-61 Wednesday night.
UNO (13-6, 7-5 MIAA) shot a season-low 35 percent from the field, while FHSU (13-5, 6-5 MIAA) converted on 44 percent of their shots and outrebounded the Mavs 44-29.
The Tigers were able to build a 28-20 lead with 5:46 remaining in the first half, but the Mavericks managed to cut the deficit down to one on a three-pointer by #Tyler Albers# with just over a minute remaining. The Tigers were able to make a jumper at the end of the half to give FHSU a three point halftime lead, 36-33.
FHSU would add to their lead in the second half as they shot 50 percent from three and never let UNO get any closer than eight points in the second half.
The Mavericks had three players score in double figures and was led by #Michael Jenkins# who finished 16 points. #Mitch Albers#, this week's MIAA player of the week, recorded 12 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while #Andrew Bridger# chipped in with 10 points and five assists.
The Tigers were paced by Tyrone Evans who finished with 20 points on 6-11 shooting from three and Ryan Herrman finished with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Mavericks will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Maryville, Mo. to battle Northwest Missouri State in MIAA action at 7:30 p.m. UNO defeated the Bearcats, 73-64 earlier this season at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
