Comeback Effort Falls Short Against MWSU

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks were within one or two possessions for nearly all of the final 12 minutes of the game but the could never take the lead as they fell to Missouri Western, 83-77 Wednesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Nebraska-Omaha fell to 14-8 overall and 8-7 in the MIAA while the Griffons jumped to 11-12 and 8-8 in the league. The Mavericks will continue action Saturday at Truman in a 3 p.m. game.
The Mavericks shot 62 percent in the game while MWSU was 50 percent. UNO was just 52 percent from the free throw line, making 11 of 21 shots while the Griffons sank 20 of 26 to shoot 77 percent from the line.
#Andrew Bridger# scored 20 points with four three-pointers, #Michael Jenkins had 17 points and Matt Newman# scored 13 off the bench with a 5-of-6 performance from the field.
The Mavericks were down by as much as 13 in the second half and then went on a 7-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Jenkins, to make the score 51-48, MWSU with 11:58 to go.
A dunk from #Justin Petersen# on the next possession pulled the Mavs within two points, and they got within two of the Griffons three more times without being able to go ahead or tie.
UNO shot 50 percent in the first half and MWSU was 43 percent. The Griffons led 39-28 at halftime. In the second half, the two teams combined to shoot 67 percent. UNO was 71 percent while MWSU was 62 percent.
Newman and Petersen led UNO with six rebounds each, but MWSU won the rebound battle, 31-24.
Bridger and #Tyler Albers# led UNO with four assists each.
Marcus Rhodes was one of two Griffons to top 20 points with a game-high 23 off a 7-of-8 performance from the field and 7-of-7 night from the free throw line.
