UNO Men Bounce Back for 83-72 Win Over Truman Stat

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - #Mitch Albers# scored 24 points to lead the UNO men's basketball team to an 83-72 win over the Truman State Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Pershing Arena. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and improved the Mavericks to 15-8 on the season and 9-7 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The two teams traded leads throughout the first ten minutes of the first half. When Truman's Matt Taylor knocked down a three-pointer with 14:51 to go, the Bulldogs led by eight, 13-5.
The Mavericks took their first lead of the game when #Tyler Albers# converted a layup with 13:21 to go to make it 15-13, capping a 10-0 UNO run.
The Mavs took the lead for good when Mitch Albers drained a three with 7:33 left to make it 24-23. UNO led at the half, 40-27.
The Bulldogs fought back in the second half, getting as close as two points three times, the last when Alex Henderson hit a three with 8:04 remaining in the game.
But UNO held off Truman State's push and locked up the game with free throws down the stretch.
#Andrew Bridger# had 19 points, 12 of which came in the first half. #Michael Jenkins added 14 points and a team-high four assists while Justin Petersen# had 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Bulldogs, who fell to 6-18 and 1-16 in the MIAA, were led by Ethan Freeman who had 19 points. Henderson added 16.
UNO returns to Sapp Fieldhouse to host the University of Central Missouri Mules on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
