Jenkins Scores 23 as Mavericks Knock Off Seventh-R

OMAHA, Neb. - #Michael Jenkins# hit 4 of 5 three-point attempts and led four Mavericks in double figures with 23 points as Nebraska-Omaha defeated No. 7 Central Missouri, 81-71 Wednesday night in Sapp Fieldhouse.
The win clinched a spot for UNO in its first-ever MIAA Championship Tournament. The Mavericks (16-8, 10-7 MIAA) are now tied for third in the conference.
The Mavericks shot 42 percent from three-point range and made 27 of 37 free throw attempts to knock off the Mules, ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region. Central Missouri was 24 percent from long range and hit 14 of 20 free throws.
Jenkins went 6 for 12 from the field and joined two other players with a team-high eight rebounds. #Mitch Albers# scored 18 points, #Dion Curry had 16 off the bench with a 4-for-4 effort from the field and Andrew Bridger# scored 11.
Curry and #Justin Petersen# also had eight rebounds.
The Mavericks built a quick, 10-point lead, as they were up, 16-6 at the 15:19 mark. The Mules cut away at the lead and tied the score, 19-19 on a 13-3 run. After six lead changes the Mavericks went into the locker room up 37-34 when Jenkins hit a three-pointer in the final seconds of the first half.
The Mules opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take the lead. They built their largest lead of the night, eight points, at the 13:42 mark when they were up, 53-45.
Jenkins hit a three at 10:32 that pulled UNO within one and then Curry's lay-up at 7:48 gave the Mavs the lead. The two teams traded the lead one more time before UNO went up for good.
The Mules were down by just six at the two-minute mark but an 8-2 run down the stretch gave UNO a 12-point lead with 32 seconds left.
UNO made 9 of 10 free throws in the final two minutes.
Sanijay Watts was 12 of 14 for UCM to score 32 points and the Mules out-blocked UNO, 6-0. The Mavericks edged UCM in rebounds, 39-36.
UNO will head to Southwest Baptist Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game with the third-ranked Bearcats.
