PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha (4-0) baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Colorado Christian University (3-4), 3-1 and 5-3, in a Sunday doubleheader at Runyon Field. The Mavericks defeated the Cougars 9-6 and 11-2 yesterday.
#Ben Percival# (1-0), #Paul Hansen and Andrew Martinez# combined to pitch seven scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven to help lead the Mavericks to victory in the first game.
In the finale, the Mavericks relied on a balanced offensive attack en route to the two-run victory. Five different UNO batters tallied a RBI, while #Evan Porter#, #Jeremy Klein and Josh Warren# each had multi-hit games.

The first game of the doubleheader was dominated by pitching on both sides. The Mavericks didn't allow the Cougars to reach base until fourth inning as UNO used four pitchers to hold CCU to just five hits in the game.
UNO got on the scoreboard in the top half of the second inning on a #Brian Goliber# sacrifice fly to center that brought home Klein.
The Mavericks added to its lead in the fifth and eighth innings. Klein had the game-winning hit in the fifth with a two-out single that brought #Brian Strawn home for the 2-0 lead. The Mavericks added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. Colby McCord#, pinch-hitting for #Chris Kessinger#, had a lead-off double to left. #Travis Jacobi#, who was inserted as a pinch-runner, eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the Mavericks' third run of the game on a sac fly from Klein.
The Cougars scored its lone run of the game in the final inning on a RBI single by Michael Cavazos off Maverick pitcher #Mark Johnson#. Johnson earned UNO's first save of the 2009 season, pitching two innings with one strike out and just one earned run.

The Maverick baseball team scored at least one run in the first four innings of play to edge CCU, 5-3 in the series finale.
In the opening inning, the first three Maverick batters reached base, capped by Strawn's RBI single to left field that scored lead-off batter #Paul Hansen#, who was hit by a pitch to begin the game. Klein recorded his third RBI in Sunday's doubleheader with a RBI single scoring Porter for UNO's second run of the inning.
In the top of the second, Jacobi hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Goliber who led the inning off with a double. UNO added to its lead in the third. #Drew Schwab and Klein each singled to begin the inning before Matt Eikmeier#'s RBI single scoring Schwab.
The Cougars cut the Mavericks lead down to 4-3, after they scored three runs in the bottom of the third off UNO starter #Tom Schmidt# (1-0).
UNO added an insurance run in the fourth inning on a RBI double by Porter scoring Hansen, who led the inning off with a walk. UNO was unable to score Porter and stranded the senior on third as the Mavericks recorded three straight outs.
After allowing three runs in the third inning, the Mavericks held the Cougars to just one hit in the final four innings.
