UNO Splits Doubleheader with Winona State

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team spilt a doubleheader with Winona State University Friday afternoon at Crane Stadium in the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by the University of Central Missouri.
The Warriors (1-1) took the opening game of the doubleheader, 8-1, while the Mavs (5-1) rebounded with an 8-5 victory in the finale.
UNO will face Upper Iowa University tomorrow in its final game of the tournament at noon.
Game 1
Winona State 8, Nebraska-Omaha 1
Winona State tallied five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to top UNO 8-1 in game one.
The Warriors capitalized on two UNO errors in the second inning, scoring three unearned runs off Mavericks' starter #Chris Kessinger# (1-1). The Mavericks finished the game with six errors that resulted in four unearned runs for WSU.
UNO scored its lone run of the game in the third inning on a RBI single by #Brian Strawn allowing Andrew Hansen# to score.
John Magee doubled WSU's lead in the top of the fifth, blasting a three-run homer off Kessinger. The Warriors added two more runs in the sixth with a two-run double by Magee.
UNO managed only three hits off Warriors' starting pitcher Ross Hellenbrand (1-0) and were 1-12 with runners on base.

Game 2
Nebraska-Omaha 8, Winona State 5
The Mavericks jumped on the Warriors early, scoring three runs in the first inning. #Andrew Hansen was hit by a pitch to begin the game and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Evan Porter hit a RBI double down the left field line to give UNO the early lead. Jeremy Klein and Matt Eikmeier each tallied two-out RBI singles to give UNO starter Kyle Dahman# a three-run lead.
WSU tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning, scoring all three runs by bases loaded walks off Dahman. #Paul Hansen# came in for relief and induced his first batter he faced to hit into an inning-ending double play.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. UNO loaded the bases on an Eikmeier single, a #Colby McCord walk and Travis Jacobi# reached base after he was hit by a pitch. After #Brady Hohl# struck out swinging, Hansen walked, allowing Eikmeier to score. Porter tallied his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly that scored McCord. A throwing error allowed Jacobi to also score on the play. #Brian Strawn# recorded UNO's final RBI of the inning with a two-out RBI single to right that brought Hansen home.
UNO used two doubles to add to its lead in the sixth inning. Jacobi led the inning off with the extra-base hit to right center and scored off a Hansen double. The Warriors trimmed the Mavericks lead down to 8-5 with a pair of two-out RBI singles in the bottom half of the inning.
#Brandon Dahl# pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first save of the year.
