UNO Tops Upper Iowa, 11-4

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Sophomore outfielder #Travis Jacobi# hit two home runs and tallied five RBIs to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha (6-1) baseball team to an 11-4 win against Upper Iowa University (0-3) Sunday afternoon at Crane Stadium in the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by the University of Central Missouri.
Senior first baseman Matt Eikmeier went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, while #Andrew Hansen and Evan Porter# each tallied three hits.
#Ben Percival# picked up his second win of the season, allowing six hits and three runs in five innings of work. #Joe Holtmeyer# came in for relief and pitched three scoreless innings. Percival and Holtmeyer each recorded seven strikeouts.
Peacocks' starter Greg Sieck took the loss, giving up six runs and nine hits in two innings.
The Mavs jumped on the Peacocks early, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Hansen led the game off with a double to left field and eventually came around to score the first run of the game on a wild pitch by Sieck.
Eikmeier gave UNO a three-run lead when he ripped a two-run single to left scoring #Chris Kessinger and Brian Strawn#. #Josh Warren# recorded the fourth and final RBI of the inning with a single that scored Eikmeier.
For the second straight inning, Hansen led the inning off with a double and was able to cross the plate on a Porter RBI single. Eikmeier tallied his third RBI of the game with a single to left field, scoring Porter.
Jacobi gave the Mavericks a 9-0 lead when he blasted a three-run fifth inning home run to left center, scoring #Brian Goliber# and Warren.
UIU answered in the bottom half of the fifth with a Kreston Albright three-run homer down the left field line.
Jacobi hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning with a solo shot to left field. The sophomore from Elkhorn, Neb. pushed the Mavericks' lead to 11-4 in the eighth with an infield single that scored #Jeremy Klein#.
A ninth-inning run by the Peacocks made the final score 11-4.
The UNO baseball team will travel to Winterhaven, Fla. next week to play in the RussMatt Tournament. The Mavs will take on the University of Tampa in their opening game of the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5:00 p.m. CST.
