OMAHA, Neb. - Rachel Faulk took her No. 1 singles match into a third set before winning and then the Mavericks won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to help clinch a 6-3 win over Southwest Baptist Friday afternoon at Hanscom Tennis Center.
Nebraska-Omaha evened its record at 4-4 and won its first ever MIAA match. The Mavericks will host Missouri Southern Saturday at 10 a.m. at Koch Tennis Center.
The Mavericks swept doubles play to go up 3-0 before singles began but the Bearcats soon evened the score. As Faulk's singles match went long the Bearcats, NCAA round of 16 participants last year, won singles points at No. 2, 3 and 4 to tie the dual 3-3.
Faulk lost, 6-7 in the opening set and then won 6-4 in the second one to force a third set. She took that, 7-5 to give UNO its fourth point in the match. Mary Lausten then won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Kelsie Olson took No. 6 singles, 6-0, 7-5, to secure the dual win for UNO.
Faulk teamed with Traci Moklestad to win at No. 1 doubles and Lausten picked up her first of two team points when she teamed with Kelsey Haas at No. 3 doubles. Heather Hottman and Samantha Thomas won at No. 2 doubles.
Faulk improved to 5-1 at No. 1 singles this year and Haas and Lausten improved to 2-0 at No. 3 doubles.
