
Mavericks Rout Bearcats in Doubleheader

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The UNO baseball team combined to score 21 runs in both ends of a doubleheader, beating Southwest Baptist University 8-0 and 13-3 on Friday afternoon at Dodson Field. With the wins, the Mavericks improve to 18-9 and 8-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday in another doubleheader beginning at noon. The start time has been moved up one hour because of the threat of rain in Bolivar, Mo.
Game 1
The Mavericks blew open a close game with six runs in the last three innings to shutout the Bearcats 8-0 in the opener of the four-game series. #Drew Schwab keyed the offensive outburst with a triple in the fifth inning that chased home Evan Porter and Brett Koehn#. Schwab then scored on a throwing error to make it 5-0.
UNO got two more in the sixth when a single by Porter scored #Jeremy Klein and Andrew Hansen#. Porter went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Schwab and Matt Eikmeier were each 2-for-4. Koehn was 2-for-3.
#Chris Kessinger# pitched a seven-inning complete game to get the win and improve to 3-2 on the season. He struck out 11 and walked only one batter while allowing just three hits.
Game 2
Klein had four hits as the Mavericks again used strong play in the middle innings to break open a tight game and win 13-3 in the nightcap. Leading 5-2 in the sixth inning, UNO scored five times on a pair of sacrifices and singles by Porter, Schwab and #Brian Goliber#.
The Mavericks had three more runs in the final two innings as they pounded Southwest Baptist pitching for 16 hits.
#Ben Percival# went the distance on the mound for the Mavericks. He allowed just two earned runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking just one over nine innings. Percival is now 6-0 on the year.
