BOLIVAR, Mo. – The UNO baseball team stretched its winning streak to five games with wins in both ends of a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. #Andrew Hansen# combined for six RBI as the Mavericks cranked out 22 runs to beat the Bearcats, 10-1 and 12-3. UNO is now 20-9 overall and 10-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Mavericks return home to host Pittsburg State in a pair of doubleheaders on March 28 and 29 at The Ballpark at Boys Town.
Game 1
The Mavericks got off to a quick start and never let off the gas in the opener, beating the Bearcats 10-1. #Drew Schwab# went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs while Hansen went 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair.
UNO led 3-0 after the first inning when a double to right by Schwab chased home Hansen and Jeremy Klein to account for two runs.
The Mavericks were leading 5-0 when they added three more in the fifth. #Brian Goliber's single scored Brian Strawn#, and Hansen had a two-run double down the left field line that plated two more.
#Joe Holtmeyer# picked up the win on the mound. He allowed six hits in five innings. He struck out eight and walked just one while allowing the only run in the game. He improved to 3-1 on the year and improved his team-leading ERA to 1.26.
Game 2
The Mavericks broke open a tight game with nine runs over the final two innings to blast the Bearcats, 12-3. Hansen drove in four more runs while going 3-for-4 in the game.
With the game tied at one after an inning, the Mavericks scored a pair in the second inning on a two-run home run by Hansen.
Southwest Baptist tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a UNO throwing error and an RBI single by A.J. Roller.
UNO retook the lead in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Klein and double by Hansen. The Mavs then put the game out of reach with seven runs in the ninth inning.
#Kyle Dahman# picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the season. Through five innings of work, he allowed five hits and one run while striking out two and walking a pair. #Paul Hansen# allowed two hits on two runs in two innings, and #Brandon Dahl# was perfect through the final two innings in relief.
UNO outscored Southwest Baptist 43-7 through the four-game series.
