Mavericks Run Win Streak To Eight with Sweep of Go

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO baseball team stretched its winning streak to a season-high eight games with and 8-0, 8-2 doubleheader sweep of the Pittsburg State University Gorillas on Sunday afternoon at the Ballpark at Boys Town. The Mavericks improved their record to 24-9 on the season and 14-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, April 1 when they host Missouri Western University in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Game 1
UNO used a 5-0 first inning to set the tone for an 8-0 win over the Gorillas in the first game of the twin bill. Eight different Mavericks registered a hit, led by #Andrew Hansen# who went 2-for-4.
Already leading 1-0 in the first, #Drew Schwab# doubled down the right field line, scoring #Brett Koehn and Evan Porter# to make it 3-0. The Mavs would add single runs on a Pitt State error and a sacrifice fly by #Travis Jacobi#.
UNO added three more in the third on a two-run triple by Jacobi and an RBI single from #Jeremy Klein#.
#Joe Holtmeyer# shutdown the Gorillas, pitching a one-hitter over a seven-inning complete game. He struck out six and walked just two to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Game 2
The Mavericks took advantage of seven Pitt State errors in the second game to finish off the sweep of the four-game weekend series, 8-2.
Again, UNO jumped all over Gorilla pitching with three runs in the first inning. Hansen doubled and later scored on an error to make it 1-0. Schwab then tripled, chasing home Koehn. #Mat Eikmeier# reached on an error and Schwab scored the unearned run to make it 3-0.
Pittsburg State came back with single runs in the second and third to make it 3-2, but the Mavs got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third when Eikmeier walked and later scored on a throwing error.
UNO got four more runs in the fifth keyed by a three-run home run from Jacobi. He finished the game 2-for-2 with the three RBI.
Pitcher #Kyle Dahman# pitched a nine-inning complete game to get the win and bump his record to 3-0. He allowed 10 hits and both earned runs while striking out five and walking one.
