AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team fell 8-5 Sunday morning against the Grand Valley State University at the Lake Myrtle Main field. The Mavericks also added a doubleheader against Wayne State University yesterday. Six teams that had missed games due to the rainy weather, including UNO who has lost four scheduled games due to the weather, was paired with the Warriors.

Grand Valley Game Recap:

Grand Valley State scored in every inning except the bottom of the third, including two in the bottom of the sixth and forced the Mavericks to play catch-up for the entire game. UNO plated its five runs off nine hits, while the Lakers scattered 13 hits in the game.

The Lakers got out to a 2-0 lead after two innings on RBI singles from Cory Maguire and Zach Laupp.

The Mavs got on the board in the top of the sixth when #Brady Hohl# ripped three-run double with two outs to narrow the GVU margin to 5-3. The Lakers added runs in the bottom of the sixth, seventh and eighth to extend their lead. UNO added a run in the seventh off a #Travis Jacobi triple that scored Tyler Lundy#. Jacobi led the Mavs, going 3-for-5 in the game with the RBI, triple and scored a run on Hohl's double in the sixth.

Freshman right-hander #Matt Tew# got the start for the Mavericks and worked four innings, giving up four runs - two unearned, on six hits with two strike outs and issued one walk in the loss. The Bellevue, Neb., native is now 1-1 on the season in his two starts for the Mavs.

The GVU pitching staff struck out 11 UNO batters, including eight of them from starting pitcher Joe Jablonski who picked up his second win of the year. He pitched seven innings and allowed UNO four runs - two earned, on eight hits with one walk.

Wayne State Double Header Recap:

UNO swept the double header against Wayne State University 5-4 - in 12 innings, and 8-0 Saturday evening once the rain let up and the fields dried out. The Mavericks had scheduled double headers with non-conference opponents Southwest Minnesota State and Augustana College rained out and cancelled on Friday and Saturday morning, so UNO was hoping to makeup a couple games.

The Mavericks and Warriors played two seven inning contests, and the two teams needed extra innings to settle the first game. With the game tied 1-1 in he seventh, Jacobi laced a two-run double to give the Mavs the lead. WSU came back to tie the game back up in the bottom of the seventh by a score of 4-4.

Scoring was idle until the top of the 12th when Lundy hit what ended up to be the game-winning RBI double, scoring Jacobi to take the lead, 5-4.

#Colby McCord#, listed as a catcher for the team, got the call to head to the pitcher's mound for the first time in his UNO career. The sophomore, who throws right-handed, pitched four innings and struck out five batters to earn his first win in his first ever appearance.

UNO took the second game 8-0 to earn the sweep of WSU. It marked UNO's fifth doubleheader sweep of the season. Senior #David Conrad# (2-0) got his second win of the year. He went 3.2 innings with a season-high eight strike outs and surrendered just three hits. Freshman #Ryan Tomlinson# worked 3.1 innings, giving up two hits while striking out seven batters.

#Andrew Hansen#'s bases loaded three-run double in the fifth broke the game open for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks have switched their opponent and (11-3 overall) will now face the North Dakota State University Bison (3-6) on Monday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. (CST). The game can be heard live on Teamline with Yano Mangiameli calling the action.
