No. 29 Mavs Split With Ichabods

TOPEKA, Kan. - The No. 29 Nebraska-Omaha baseball team (26-12, 22-8 MIAA) settle for a split in its four-game series with MIAA rival Washburn (17-16, 16-14 MIAA) with each team collecting a win on Sunday. UNO took the first game 11-6 behind a five run second inning, but fell in the nightcap by a score of 6-4.
Washburn got out to a 4-1 lead after the first frame of the first game with four singles in the inning.
The Maverick bats heated up in the top of the second led by a #Tyler Splichal# three-run bomb over the right field fence. It was his third home run of the year. UNO scattered four hits and plated five runs in the inning.
#Travis Jacobi# added a two-run shot in the sixth to add to the UNO lead. UNO had 12 hits, including five extra base hits in the game.
#Ryan Tomlinson# (1-1) picked up his first win career win in a five inning outing. He gave up six runs - five earned, on seven hits while striking out two and walking three batters.
Splichal was 3-for-5 with five RBI in the game. It was his 14th game with three hits this season.
In the second game, UNO had a 4-3 lead until the bottom of the sixth when Dam Simoneau's single tied the game up at 4-4. The Ichabods took the lead in the next at-bat from a pinch hit RBI triple from David Wade. Washburn added an insurance run in the eighth and the Mavs couldn't muster up a rally despite out hitting the Ichabods 13-9 in the game.
#Tyler Lundy# went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs score and one RBI.
The Mavericks will begin a 10-game home stand which will close out the regular season when Missouri Western State visits for doubleheader on Wednesday, April 21 at 1 p.m. a the Ballpark at Boys Town.
