BOLIVAR, Mo. - The UNO women's tennis team dropped their first in MIAA play Saturday against conference rival Southwest Baptist University, 5-4. The loss is the Mavs' first in the MIAA as they fall to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bearcats of Southwest Baptist improve to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA.
Sophomore #Traci Moklestad# fell in a close contest against Jolee Cook of SBU in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5). However, the Mavericks faired a little better later in the competition as #Mary Lausten# continued her good run with a victory over Misti Janisch in No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-3.
The Mavericks had the better of the Bearcats in the doubles competition as #Heather Hottman and Samantha Thomas# won in No. 2 doubles, 9-7. #Mary Lausten made it a perfect day for herself as she was paired with Kelsie Olson# in No. 3 doubles. The pairing took home the victory over Jenna Hendrickson and Crystal Guiot of Southwest Baptist, 8-3.
The Mavs look to bounce back as they return home to face South Dakota State on Tuesday in non-conference play. The match against the Jackrabbits is set to start at 4 p.m.
