Mavs Fall To Tigers In Series Opener

HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State used an eight-run sixth inning to balloon its lead to 10-2 and added two more in the seventh as the Tigers downed the No. 25 Maverick baseball team 12-2 in seven innings due to the 10-run rule in the series opener Friday night at Larks Park.
The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth until the Tigers broke the game open with eight runs on seven hits, led by a three-run home run by FHSU outfielder Clint Bieberle.
Bierberle ended the game in the seventh when he blasted his second long ball of the game, this time a two-run shot which enforced the 10-run rule on the Mavericks.
UNO scored one run in the second and one in the fourth. #Trevor Gappa drove in both of the Maverick runs. Brady Hohl# was 3-for-3 with a double.
Senior #David Conrad# (2-2) took the loss. He went five innings and allowed five runs - all earned, on five hits while striking out five and walking three.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. at Larks Park.
