Guard Marcus Tyus has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the UNO men's basketball program in 2012-13, Head Coach Derrin Hansen announced Friday. A native of Ramsey, Minn., Tyus is a 6-1, 175-pound point guard from Anoka High School.
A first-team All-Northwest Suburban Conference player last year, Tyus averaged 21.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Tyus played AAU ball for the 43 Hoops program coached by former Minnesota Timberwolves player Chris Carr.
"Marcus can play a couple of the guard positions, and just as importantly, he has a scorer's mentality from both," Hansen said. "His athleticism and competitiveness is something that will compliment our team as we move forward in our transition. We are fortunate to have a player of Marcus's character join our basketball team."
Nebraska Omaha opens the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Nov. 12 at IPFW, marking the first year of UNO's reclassification to Division I.
