The UNO women's soccer team hosts three Division II schools in the UNO Invitational this weekend. Former MIAA member Truman, future MIAA member Central Oklahoma and Lone Star Conference power Midwestern State will join the Mavs in the four-team tournament at the UNO Soccer Field on Friday and Sunday.
Truman and Midwestern State kick things off at 3 p.m., on Friday, with UNO and Central Oklahoma following at 5 p.m. Then on Sunday, Central Oklahoma will play Truman at 11 a.m., before UNO and Midwestern State cap the weekend at 1 p.m.
This weekend's two games will be two of the three games the Mavs play at home this year. UNO won't play at home again until Oct. 22, when Washburn comes to town. Last year, UNO went 0-2 in the same four-team tournament, hosted by Central Oklahoma. The Mavs fell to Central Oklahoma, 2-1, and to Midwestern State, 2-1.

Central Oklahoma has 11 players back who started at least 10 games last year. The Bronchos are led by forward Brittni Walker, who had a team-high 23 points (nine goals, five assists) last season. Head Coach Mike Cook is 199-68-16 in 13 years at UCO and will be aiming for his 200th win this weekend.

Midwestern State is coming off an NCAA Division II postseason appearance for the first time in school history. The Mustangs won the Lone Star Conference regular-season championship last season, but must replace their entire starting midfield this season. The Mustangs are led by Kelsey Hill and Lindsay Pritchard, who combined for 20 goals and 11 assists last season.
The Coaches
Don Klosterman is in his 13th year as the head coach of the UNO Mavericks. The only head coach in the program's history, Klosterman has a 194-53-10 record, just six wins from number 200 in his career at UNO. The two-time national coach of the year has led the Mavericks to the Division II national semifinal four times, culminating in the 2005 NCAA Division II national championship. Under Klosterman, the Mavericks are 19-7 all-time in NCAA Division II tournament play and have won six conference titles. Klosterman formerly served as the head men's soccer coach at Benedictine College (1979-83) and Creighton (1984-86). He graduated from Benedictine in 1974.
Mike Cook is in his 14th season as the head coach at Central Oklahoma. He has a 199-68-16 record in his 13 years with the Bronchos. He has been named Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year six times and Midwest Regional Coach of the Year twice. Cook graduated from Southern Nazarene.
Jeff Trimble enters his 14th season as the head coach at Midwestern State. He carries a 160-80-20 record under his belt and one NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. Trimble graduated from Grace College in 1993.
Last Time Out
The UNO Maverick women's soccer team earned its first Division I win last Sunday with a 3-2 come-from-behind effort at Summit League foe South Dakota.
The Mavs (1-1) scored two second-half goals off corner kicks to rally to win. The Coyotes fell to 0-2 on the season. South Dakota struck first when Makena Cameron scored her first goal of the season in the 12th minute off assists from Jenny Teslow and Rebecca Pederson.
The Mavs didn't take long to answer though, as Danielle Archuleta scored UNO's first goal of the season in the 19th minute to draw even at 1-1. Hilary Jackson assisted the goal.
The Coyotes regained the lead in the 29th minute off of a Colleen Reeves goal. USD took the 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Mavs came back by converting two corner kick opportunities into goals. In the 55th minute, UNO scored off of an own goal following a Monica Bosiljevac corner kick to level the score at 2-2. Then at the 66:00 mark, Jordyn Braun scored off of a Hayley Renshaw corner kick to put UNO in front, 3-2.
Maverick goalkeeper Katelyn Tschida made two saves in the win. The Mavericks outshot South Dakota 12-8 and held a decisive advantage in corner kicks at 12-2.
Next Up for the Mavs...
UNO travels to Washington for a pair of games later this week. On Sept. 8, UNO plays at St. Martin's at 5 p.m. (CT) in Olympia, then on Sept. 10, the Mavs play at Seattle Pacific at 9:30 p.m. (CT).
