OMAHA – The Omaha women's soccer team (4-8-5, 3-4-2) gave Oral Roberts (13-1-4, 7-0-2) all it could handle Thursday night at Caniglia Field but ultimately fell short, 2-1.
The Golden Eagles struck early, building a 2-0 lead just 18 minutes into the match. Omaha got its first great look in the 22nd minute as Addie LaRock and Kate Lucas combined for three chances deep in the box, but all three shots were denied to keep the Mavericks off the board.
Omaha struck in the 31st minute as Grace Bartlam delivered an epic Olimpico goal from the corner to put the Mavericks on the board. It marked Bartlam's second career goal and her first of the season.
The Mavericks continued to hang tough with the Golden Eagles, pitching a shutout over the final 72 minutes of the match. Omaha had a great chance late in the box but was unable to convert.
Omaha will return to action Sunday as it heads to Kansas City to face the Roos at 1 p.m. on the Summit League Network.
