Two Mavs Named All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Two members of the UNO women's golf team were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for Division I. Senior Elizabeth Havekost and junior Brooke Thilges each earned the honor.
Havekost ranked fourth in scoring for the Mavericks last season with a stroke average of 85.3. The native of Beatrice, Neb. was one of three Mavericks to play in all 24 rounds last season. She shot a career-best round of 77 at the Monterey Bay Invitational on March 20. She also had her best 36-hole score of 164 at the Truman Bulldog Classic on Oct. 23 and 24. She is majoring in general science.
Thilges ranked third in scoring for UNO in 2011-12 with a stroke average of 85. She too played in all 24 rounds last season and had a career-best round of 75 at the Monterey Bay Invitational on March 20. The native of Manhattan, Kan. shot a career-low 36-hole score of 160 at the Augustana Spring Invitational on April 14 and 15. She is majoring in recreation/leisure studies.
The Mavericks begin the 2012-13 season with an exhibition match against Summit League foe South Dakota on Aug. 31.
