Summit League Preseason Poll Announced

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's soccer team has been picked to tie for eighth in The Summit League Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, the conference office announced on Thursday. The poll was determined by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.
Oakland, after becoming the first fourth-seeded team to win The Summit League Championship last season, has been selected as the preseason favorite to repeat for the title. The Golden Grizzlies landed five first-place votes, while last season's regular-season champion South Dakota State collected the remaining four first-place tallies and finished second in the poll.
Kansas City edged out North Dakota State by one point for third place, followed by Fort Wayne in the fifth slot. IUPUI and Western Illinois tied for sixth, while the Mavericks and South Dakota tied for eighth place to round out the poll.
The Mavericks open exhibition play on Saturday at Noon against South Dakota at the UNO Soccer Field. Admission is free.

The top four teams in the regular-season standings (excluding UNO) will compete for The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings, S.D., Nov. 2 and 4. The tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's College Cup. The Mavericks are not eligible for the conference tournament or postseason play until 2015.
