OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team dropped its first two conference games of the season on Saturday, as North Dakota State swept a doubleheader at the Ballpark at Boys Town, 8-7 and 15-7. The league-leading Mavericks are now 15-18 (9-2 Summit League), while the Bison improve to 17-16 (5-4 Summit League).

GAME 1 – NORTH DAKOTA STATE 8, OMAHA 7
Reliever Parker Trewin (1-2) earned the win for NDSU in game one, allowing just one hit and a walk over 2.0 innings of work. The loss went to senior Derek Landis (0-1), who allowed two runs on three hits in 0.1 innings, while Kyle Kingsley picked up his fourth save of the year. Omaha starter Zach Williamsen went 5.2 innings in his outing, striking out a career-high-tying six batters.

UNO outhit NDSU, 13-12, led by a 3-for-4 day from Cory Buckley, who also scored twice. Senior Tyler Splichal and freshmen Cole Gruber and Alex Schultz each had a pair of hits, with Gruber driving in two runs, while senior Ryan Keele also had a triple and two RBI.

Wes Satzinger paced North Dakota State, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI, while John Skrbec was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two more driven in. Tim Colwell also went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Kyle Kleinendorst and Nick Altavilla each had two hits.

NDSU took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning, then stretched it to 3-0 in the second. Omaha responded with four runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead, but the Bison came back for four runs of their own in the sixth to go up 7-4 and added a single insurance run in the top of the seventh to make it 8-4.

The Mavericks nearly came back for a win with a three-run frame in the bottom of the seventh. Buckley led off with a single up the middle, and Splichal later reached on a throwing error to put runners on the corners with two outs. Gruber then singled up the middle, plating both runners at 8-6. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Gruber scored on Schultz's RBI single to right, making it a one-run game at 8-7. NDSU got a flyout for the second out and got Schultz on a fielder's choice play, snagging the opener by a final score of 8-7.

GAME 2 – NORTH DAKOTA STATE 15, OMAHA 7
Sophomore Alex Mortensen topped Omaha offensively in game two, registering a 3-for-5 effort with a run scored. Junior Caleb Palensky tallied his first home run of the season with a two-run shot to right in the fourth, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Schultz also went 2-for-3 with two runs and another driven in, and junior Brett Bass added a pair of hits.

NDSU had six players with multi-hit performances, including three hits apiece from Satzinger, Kleinendorst and Altavilla. Kleinendorst was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and six RBI.

Adam Lambrecht (4-0) earned the win in relief, tossing 2.0 innings with two runs on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts. Senior Matt Tew (2-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits with four strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Simon Anderson nabbed his third save, allowing one run on five hits over 3.1 innings of work.

Omaha pulled within one run at 5-4 in the fourth inning, but NDSU pushed across two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, then three more in both the eighth and ninth frames. The Bison pounded out 17 hits to UNO's 14 in game two, taking the sweep with a final score of 15-7.
