Mavs Split at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The UNO softball team split two games at Oakland on Friday. The Mavericks suffered a 2-1 defeat in game one before notching a 1-0 win in game two.
The Mavs are now 35-7 overall and 13-3 in The Summit League, while Oakland is 7-22-1 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
The series concludes on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT). It marks the final game of the season for the Mavericks.
Oakland 2, Omaha 1
Oakland took a 2-0 lead in the first three innings and Erin Kownacki shut down the Maverick lineup to lift the Golden Grizzlies in the win.
Dana Elsasser (20-7) took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first without a hit by drawing two walks, a hit by pitch and an error. In the bottom of the third, the Golden Grizzlies tacked on another run on a Maverick error to make it 2-0.
Omaha cut the lead in half in the fifth when Lindsay Redding scored on a single by Campbell Ditto. But that's all the run production the Mavs could muster. UNO had five hits in the game, while Oakland had six. Both teams had two errors. Allie Mathewson had two hits for the Mavs.
The game was the 2,000th in school history for the Mavericks.

The Mavs fought back in game two, thanks to a stellar performance from Ashton Hughes. The senior pitcher improved to 11-0 on the season with a complete-game five-hit shutout. Hughes allowed two walks and struck out three.
The Mavs broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Allie Mathewson led off with a single up the middle, and Tara Trede moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt. Mathewson took third on a wild pitch and then scored on a single by Campbell Ditto.
The Mavs escaped bases-loaded jams in both the sixth and seventh innings to survive. Hughes struck out Shannon Cleveland with the bases loaded to end the game.
Mathewson finished 2-for-3 with one run. Mara Eeman and Lindsay Redding also had hits.
