Omaha WoMen's Soccer Opens Summit League Play

The Omaha women's soccer team opens the home portion of its Summit League schedule on Friday, October 10. The Mavericks host the Bison of North Dakota State at 7:00 p.m. at Caniglia Field. Sunday afternoon, October 12th, Omaha travels to Des Moines, Iowa to play a non-conference game against Drake University. Kick-off at Cownie Soccer Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
The Teams
Omaha (3-8-1, 1-0-1 Summit League) opened the Summit League season by going 1-0-1 in a pair of road games. On Friday afternoon, the Mavericks traveled to Vermillion, South Dakota to open conference play. Omaha and South Dakota played to a double overtime 0-0 draw at the South Dakota Soccer Complex. The Mavs held a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal, but couldn't put a ball in the back of the net. In Denver, Colo. on Sunday afternoon, Omaha took on defending conference champions Denver. UNO twice had a one goal lead, before seeing Denver tie the game up. The Mavs got the game winner in the second overtime to hand the Pioneers their first ever conference loss.
North Dakota State (5-6, 1-1 Summit League) opened Summit League play by going 1-1 in a pair of home games in Fargo, North Dakota. In the conference opener, NDSU lost to Western Illinois 2-1 in overtime. The Bison rallied from a 1-0 deficit at the half to tie the game. Western Illinois netted the game winner 4:11 into added time. NDSU picked up their first conference win on Sunday against IUPUI, 1-0. The Bison scored the game winner midway through he second half.
Drake (5-7-1, 0-1-1 Missouri Valley) opened Missouri Valley action with a tie against intrastate rival Northern Iowa, 2-2 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Drake found itself trailing 2-0 in the 58th minute, before starting the comeback. The Bulldogs scored two goals in the final 26 minutes to tie the game at 2-2. Neither team could break the tie in the two overtime periods.
Series History
Omaha and North Dakota State are meeting for the ninth time. UNO trails NDSU 5-3 all-time. The Bison have won the lost three meetings. Last season, North Dakota State defeated Omaha 2-1 in double overtime in Fargo.
Omaha and Drake will meet for the third time in program history on Sunday. The two teams have split the two meetings. Drake won the last meeting in 2012 by a score of 2-0 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Scouting the Mavericks
Offensively, Omaha is led by Chelsi Rohloff. The junior has scored eight goals and dished out two assists for 18 points on the season. Rohloff has started all 12 matches this season and has netted two game winning goals. Anna Sibson and Hannah Wampler each have two goals. Sibson is second on the team with seven points. Those points come from two goals and three assists. Wampler has two goals for four points. Lydia Holtmann and Courtney Neville are tied with Sibson for the team lead in assists. Holtmann and Neville each have a goal and three assists for a total of five points. Kyla Booker has a goal and two assists this season for four points. Layla Ashouri and Ali Engler each have goals this season. Marin Dregelid, Nyoke Dumba, Lauren Lawler each have one assist on the year.
Haley Shelton has started nine games in goal this season for Omaha. She has a 2-6-1 overall record and a 1.88 goals against average. She has made 51 saves on the year and holds a .739 save percentage. Katlyn Schochenmaier has played in three games with two starts for the Mavs. She has a 1-1 overall record with a 1.91 goals against average. Schochenmaier has made 15 saves and a .750 save percentage. Meaghan Clark has started one game this year and is 0-1 on the season. She has a 2.64 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
Scouting the Opponents
North Dakota State has outscored the opposition 15-11 this season, but is 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Summit League play. The Bison are 3-2 in Fargo and 2-4 on the road. NDSU is led by Lauren Miller offensively. The sophomore from Minnesota has seven goals and 14 points in 11 games this season (starting ten games). Amy Yang and Anish Kinnarath lead the team with four assists each. Yang has six points this year from a goal and four assists, while Kimmarath has all four of her points from assists. Lizzie Lucas has contributed three goals for a total of six points. In goal, Sierra Bonham has started all 11 games for NDSU and has a 5-6 overall record with two shut-outs. Bonham has a .788 save percentage and a 1.03 goals against average. Jenna Zaeske has appeared in one game allowing no goals.
Drake has been outscored by the opposition 18-16 this season. The Bulldogs are 2-3 at home, 2-3 on the road, and have a 1-1 mark on neutral sites. Rebecca Rodgers leads Drake offensively. Rodgers has seven goals and three assists for 17 points on the season in ten games. Ashlie Stokes is second on the team in points with two goals and three assists. Generve Charles has three goals for six points. Maddie Nelson has added a goal and two assists for four points. Kyla Armstrong and Alex Freeman each have a goal and an assist. Drake has used two goalkeepers this season. Kylynn Moyer is 5-6 on the season with two shut-outs this season. She has a .800 save percentage and a 1.35 goals against average. Haley Morris is 0-1 on the season with a .571 save percentage. Morris also has a 2.91 goals against average.
