Mavs Finish 14th in Season-Opening Tournament

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Omaha women's golf team finished in 14th place at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was the Mavericks' first of the spring season.
The Mavericks finished with a 54-hole team score of 1,057 in the field of 15 teams. Northern Arizona tied with Santa Clara for the team title with scores of 920. McNeese State was third at 923.
Sophie Peters had the best round of the day, shooting an 82 for the three-round total of 259. That put her second for the Mavericks and in a tie for 66th overall.
Katie Kesti led the Mavericks in the tournament with a total score of 252 that included a round of 86 on the final day. She finished in a tie for 54th overall.
Makenna Kroeker was third for the Mavs and 75th overall with a 54-hole score of 266. She shot 90 in round three. Kat Slump was fourth for the Mavericks after shooting a 95 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 284, good for 83rd.
Gentry Carveth closed out the scoring for the Mavs with a score of 287. She was 84th.
The Mavericks are off for a month before resuming play at the MSU Ocala Spring Tournament on March 24-25 at Ocala, Fla.
