The Omaha men's basketball team (13-9, 3-4 Summit League) returns to action for its final non-conference game this Wednesday, Feb. 5, hosting in-state foe Peru State. Scouting the Peru State Bobcats
Peru State, which plays at South Dakota Tuesday night, enters the week with a record of 9-12 (4-7 HAAC) through games of Feb. 3 after dropping a 74-65 loss to Evangel last Saturday. The Bobcats were paced by 15 points apiece from Kody Kirkpatrick and Taylor Christensen, and Christensen added a team-best nine rebounds.
Four Peru State players have averaged double-figure scoring this year, led by 20.4 points as well as a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game from Nate Bohy. Kirkpatrick comes in at 14.6 points per game, while Christensen has 10.6 per contest. The Bobcats are led by head coach Troy Katen, who holds a record of 27-122 over six seasons.
Omaha leads the all-time series with Peru State, 23-7. The two teams last squared off on Feb. 1, 2012, with the Mavericks taking a 106-71 win at Sapp Fieldhouse.

Outstanding 3-point shooting sparked the Omaha men's basketball team to a 99-71 win at IUPUI on Saturday afternoon. Ten of UNO's 11 players contributed in a balanced scoring attack, led by six players in double figures. Sophomore Devin Patterson finished with a team-best 15 points with three 3-pointers, six rebounds, six assists and two steals, followed by 14 points from senior center John Karhoff. Senior guard Justin Simmons added 13 points, eight boards, four assists and two steals, and junior guard CJ Carter totaled 12 points with four steals and six helpers.
Senior guard Alex Phillips added another 12 points, and sophomore guard Marcus Tyus had 13. Junior forward Mike Rostampour narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.
Omaha shot 55 percent (38-of-69) as a team and 52 percent (12-of-23) from long range, tying its season best for threes made in a game previously set against Waldorf on Dec. 3. IUPUI finished at a 48 percent (29-of-60) clip and 14 percent (2-of-14) beyond the arc.
Home Sweet Home
The 2013-14 season marks UNO's second season playing at Ralston Arena, which serves as the home of Maverick men's basketball, Omaha Lancers hockey and Omaha Beef indoor football. The Mavs will play a full Summit League schedule this year with seven conference games, and in total they have 14 games on the slate at Ralston.
In 2012-13, its inaugural season at Ralston, Omaha enjoyed a 7-6 advantage at home. The Mavericks are 7-1 at home this year, starting with six straight wins over UMKC (101-71), South Carolina State (91-59), Iowa Wesleyan (86-36), Waldorf College (100-66), CSU Bakersfield (93-88) and Seattle (76-69). UNO was dealt its first loss on Jan. 23 against Denver before taking a 77-73 win over South Dakota on Jan. 25. UNO's seven home wins have come at an average margin of 18.5 points, and the Mavs have scored an average of 85.5 points per game on their home court.
