Mar 20, 2014 | Men's Basketball
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team will travel to Murray State for the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), it was announced Thursday morning. The Mavericks and the Racers will tip off on Monday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
Murray State earned a 66-63 win at Missouri State on Wednesday night in first-round action, while Omaha secured its first Division I postseason win with a 91-75 triumph over North Dakota at Ralston Arena.
The Racers, who are guided by third-year head coach Steve Prohm, are 19-11 on the season and went 13-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play. MSU went 0-2 at its league tournament, falling 118-115 in double overtime to SEMO before an 86-83 loss to Eastern Kentucky. Last night's game at Missouri State was the Racers' first since March 7 at the OVC Tournament.
Cameron Payne leads Murray State with 16.3 points per game, while Jarvis Williams has averaged a double-double with 14.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. T.J. Sapp (14.0 ppg) and Jeffery Moss (13.3 ppg) also average double-figure scoring.
Monday will mark the first meeting in program history between Omaha and Murray State.
The CIT is a 32-team field drawn from non-BCS schools, and all 31 games of the tournament are played at campus sites. In an effort to minimize travel and missed class time, the CIT uses a format that determines future opponents by previous results. As an example, second-round pairings are made after first-round games are completed, and teams in the same geographical area are likely to be paired.
