Mavericks Fall to Sharks, 6-1.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—The Omaha women's tennis team dropped its first match of a spring break trip to Florida, falling at Nova Southeastern, 6-1, on Friday. With the loss, Omaha falls to 3-7 (0-0 Summit League), while the Sharks improved to 11-3 (3-2 Sunshine State Conference).
Omaha started slow and lost all three doubles matches to drop the doubles point. At No. 1, senior Alex Tran and freshman Hylan Miller teamed up but lost to Sabrina Kierberg and Alex Kaeser, 8-3. It was the same story at No. 2, where sophomore Tiffany Hottman and Molly Matricardi lost to Alex Johansson and Carlee Rizzolo, 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, the Maverick duo of Kenzie Hill and Jacqueline Baude lost to LInda Kornienko and Juliet Serabian, 8-2.
In singles play, the Mavericks; lone win came from Matricardi at the No. 3 spot. The sophomore fought hard, defeating Rizzolo, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker. At No. 1, Tran lost a close battle in three sets, falling to Johansson 6-4, 6-7, 4-10.
The Mavericks return to action on Tuesday, March 25, when they take on Florida International. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CT) in Miami, Fla.
