DUNNELLON, Fla. – Sophie Peters shot a first-round score of 78 to lead the Omaha women's golf team on the first day of competition at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational hosted by Morehead State.
The Mavericks, playing with just four players, are looking to move up after carding a first-round team score of 342, putting them last in the field of 16 teams. Daytona State College leads with a first day total of 295, three strokes better than Florida Gulf Coast. North Florida and Houston Baptist are tied at 299.
Peters' score puts her in a tie for 44th overall. Katie Kesti carded an 80 over the first 18 holes to rank second for the Mavericks and in a tie for 64th overall. Both Makenna Kroeker and Kat Slump shot 92 on day one to sit in a tie for 90th.
The second round of the three-day event begins with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. from the Juliette Falls Golf Resort.
