Mavericks Sharp in 2-0 Win Over Incarnate Word

OMAHA, Neb. - Behind a goal and an assist from Chelsi Rohloff, the Omaha women's soccer team posted a 2-0 season-opening win over Incarnate Word at Caniglia Field on Friday.
It was the Mavs' first season-opening win since 2008, back when the Mavs were in Division II. Incarnate Word (0-1) is also in the midst of a transition to Division I.
Neither team threatened much for most of the first half. Kyla Booker got her head on two crosses in the middle of the box in the opening five minutes, and Layla Ashouri had a shot on goal saved.
The Mavs finally broke through in the 40th minute. Chelsi Rohloff and Anna Sibson worked the ball back and forth to each other in the middle of the pitch before Sibson's pass put Rohloff through into space. Rohloff finished from the top of the 18-yard box into the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead at the 39:05 mark.
Freshman Lydia Holtmann doubled the lead in the 67th minute with her first career collegiate goal. Sibson played Rohloff down the right side, and Rohloff centered the ball to Holtmann for a tap-in from six yards out.
UNO finished with a 12-10 shot advantage and had a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Maverick freshman goalie Katlyn Schochenmaier earned the shutout in her first collegiate game and start, making three saves.
UNO is on the road next weekend at Weber State and at Utah State.
