
Mavericks Fall in Double Overtime

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha lost a 2-1 double overtime match to in-town rival Creighton University (8-1) on Sunday evening in front of 1,334 fans at Caniglia Field.
Omaha (2-6) struck first in the 23rd minute when Kyla Booker headed home a cross from Chelsi Rohloff. The Mavericks outshot the Bluejays 9-5 in the opening half.
The Mavericks had a 1-0 lead in the closing moments of regulation, before Creighton scored the equalizer. Lauren Sullivan knocked home a pass from Emily Roll to tie the game at 1-1 at the 88:25 mark.
Neither team scored in the first overtime. Creighton scored the game winning goal at the 101:57 mark of the game when Sullivan headed home a cross by Roll.
Kyla Booker and Chelsi Rohloff each had three shots (two on goal) to lead UNO. Courtney Neville and Marin Dregelid each had two shots.
Haley Shelton made six saves in the loss.
"I am happy with the way that we played today," commented head coach Don Klosterman. "We played well in every aspect of the game, but we did not get the result we wanted."
Omaha hits the road for a pair of games later in the week. The Mavericks travel to Springfield, Mo. to play Missouri State on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. UNO returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 27 at 4:00 p.m. against Saint Louis University in Saint Louis.
