DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois scored on an early penalty kick and then held on to edge the Omaha women's soccer team, 1-0, on a rainy Friday night.

The loss was the third straight for the Mavericks after winning their season opener two weeks ago. They are now 1-3-0 on the year. The win was the first for the Huskies who improved to 1-4-0.

In the 26th minute, Allie McBride converted a penalty kick past Omaha sophomore Haley Shelton, a defender forced to play goal due to injuries to goalkeepers Katlyn Schochenmaier and Meaghan Clark.

Shelton finished with two saves as the Mavericks led in shots on goal, 5-3, and had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Mavericks return home following three straight on the road to host New Mexico State on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
