Florida International Tops Mavericks On the Road

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Omaha women's tennis team was back in action Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-1 loss to Florida International at the FIU Tennis Courts. The Mavericks are now 4-10 (2-2 Summit League), while the Panthers improve to 8-6 (2-0 Conference USA).
FIU started by taking two doubles wins to open the day. At No. 1, freshman Michelle Lo and senior Jacqueline Baude were defeated 6-3 by Nerma Caluk and Valentina Briceno, while sophomore Kenzie Hill and junior Molly Matricardi also lost their match at No. 2, 6-4 to Yana Koroleva and Nina Nagode.
In singles play, the Mavericks earned a point at No. 6 as sophomore Allison Johnson picked up a win due to FIU not having a player.
Baude was slated in the No. 2 spot and fell 6-0, 6-0 to Caluk, and at No. 5, sophomore Rebecca Stafford was defeated by Valentina Briceno 6-0, 6-0. The last match of the afternoon to conclude was at No. 4, where sophomore Kenzie Hill lost her match 6-0, 6-1 to Kaitlin Brozovich.
In the Nos. 1 and 3 positions, Lo and Matricardi both did not finish their matches.
Omaha concludes its spring break trip on Thursday, March 26, facing St. Thomas in Miami, Fla.
