Mavericks Open Fall Season at Drake Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Omaha women's tennis team kicked off its fall competition over the weekend, traveling to the Drake Fall Invitational.
Freshman Janelle Wilson won the "C" flight in singles action. She opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Northern Colorado's Marisasa Baca, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Northern Iowa's Sydney Wolf. Wilson then outlasted Preethi Kasilingam of North Dakota, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, before a final 6-3, 6-1 win over Laurie Clark of Milwaukee.
Sophomore Michelle Lo also picked up a win in "A" flight singles, defeating Northern Colorado's Beth Coton, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. In the "D" singles consolation bracket, junior Rebecca Stafford earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Yulia Prokopyshyn of Upper Iowa. Junior Kenzie Hill recorded another win, 6-1, 6-1, over Megan Kos of Cardinal Stritch.
On the doubles side, Lo and freshman Kylie Boyer won their first two matches in the "A" flight. The duo topped Creighton's Darby Rosette and Ashley Ishimura, 6-0, then Cristina Alvarez and Evelyn Yovel of Northern Illinois, 7-5. In the "B" flight, Hill and senior Molly Matricardi won their first match, 7-5 over Aliza Deming and Courtney Brackin of North Dakota. The "C" doubles consolation bracket saw senior Maddie Holscher and freshman Hannah Hills pick up a 6-2 victory over Prokopyshyn and Breanna Heichert of Upper Iowa.
Omaha returns to action Sept. 25-27, hosting the Omaha Invite.
