Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 On Last-Minute Goal to CSU

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team nearly recorded its third tie of the season, but a goal by Colorado State with under a minute remaining in the second overtime led to a 1-0 loss for the Mavericks on Friday night.
UNO falls to 2-4-2 on the season, while CSU improved to 3-4-1.
Colorado State scored with 24 seconds left in the second overtime period to win, 1-0. Defender Jessica Stauffer was in the right position as a ball landed at her feet after bouncing around the Maverick penalty area following a corner kick. Stauffer took her shot from the top of the box that ricocheted off the left post and trickled into the net for the winner.
Omaha controlled possession through all of regulation and the first overtime period as the Mavericks fired 17 shots against the Rams, nine for the contest.
Both teams had opportunities to score in the first half, but stellar goalkeeping from Omaha's Katlyn Schochenmaier and Colorado State's Jesse McGinley kept the game at a 0-0 deadlock.
Schochenmaier finished with four saves, while McGinley stopped five shots.
Defenders Jessica Bollinger, Ava Doetsch, Lauren Lawler, Cydney Skinner, and Katie Vanderzwaag were a solid presence in the defensive third of the field for the Mavericks.
Omaha's Chelsi Rohloff led all players with five shots (one on goal), while teammate Marin Dregelid added four shots (one on goal). Natalie Johnson and Emily Romero each had two shots for the Mavericks. Hannah Gerdin led CSU with two shots (one on goal).
Omaha returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Northern Colorado. Game time is slated for noon at Caniglia Field.
