Mavericks Finish Weekend at Omaha Invite

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha women's tennis team brought its fall competition home over the weekend, as the Mavericks welcomed Upper Iowa, Augustana and Creighton to Koch Tennis Center for the two-day Omaha Invite.
Flight A singles included a win for senior Molly Matricardi over Linn Sorman of Upper Iowa, 6-2, 6-0. In Flight B, junior Hylan Miller recorded three consecutive victories over Upper Iowa's Saki Kawabata (6-3, 6-0) and Creighton's Katherine Nelsen (6-4, 6-3) and Darby Rosette (6-1, 3-6, 6-3). Freshman Janelle Wilson also defeated UIU's Julia Prokopyshya 6-1, 6-0 and Rosette (7-5, 5-7, 6-1).
Freshman Kylie Boyer earned a trio of wins in Flight C, taking down Upper Iowa's Brianna Heichert (6-0, 6-0) and Creighton's Sam Anderson (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Claire Embree (6-4, 6-4). Junior Kenzie Hill also picked up two wins over UIU's Kelly Jachymowski (6-2, 6-2) and Heichert (6-0, 6-0).
In Flight D, freshman Hannah Hills and senior Maddie Holscher squared off in an all-UNO matchup, with Hills earning a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win. Junior Rebecca Stafford rounded it out in Flight E, garnering a pair of wins over Augustana's Katie McLaughlin (6-4, 6-1) and redshirt freshman teammate Rachel Skolaski (6-0, 6-1).
On the doubles side, Miller and Boyer defeated a mixed-school pairing of Stafford and Upper Iowa's Kawabata, 8-4, in Flight A. Matricardi and sophomore Michelle Lo teamed up for two Flight B doubles wins, topping Creighton's Nelson and Michaela Henne, 8-6, and Jachymowski/Sorman of Upper Iowa, 8-0.
In Flight C, Hill/Wilson downed Prokopyshyn/Heichert (Upper Iowa), 8-0. And in Flight D action among Maverick teammates, Holscher and junior Allison Johnson secured an 8-1 win over Hills and Skolaski.
Omaha's fall season continues next weekend at the crosstown Creighton Invite, running Friday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Oct. 4. Friday's competition begins at 2 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday's action is set for 9 a.m.
