Women's Soccer Opens Exhibition Play at Arkansas

OMAHA, Neb. – Following a week of preseason training, the Omaha women's soccer team will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for its only exhibition match on Thursday, Aug. 10, to face No. 17 Arkansas.
The Mavericks finished the 2016 season with a 5-11-3 record and a 3-4-1 mark in Summit League play. Â There are 12 returning letterwinners, along with 12 newcomers added to the roster in 2017. Â Carlie Cook returns as the squad's top scorer with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Â Lydia Holtmann tallied 10 points and Emily Romero added seven points on a goal and five assists. Â
Jessica Bollinger started every game last season and logged over 1,500 minutes. Â Erin Dimon appeared in all 19 games last season and started 16. Â Sophia Roux garnered Summit League All-Newcomer honors in 2016.
The UNO defense produced four shutouts in 2016. Â Goalkeeper Erin Bunker posted a 1.39 goals-against average in four matches. Â Bunker registered a .773 save percentage and a 1-3 record.
The Mavericks welcome 12 newcomers in freshmen Bailey Cascio, Andrea Daves, Sarah Doran, Emily Fontana, Sydney Randall, Maggie Tulay and Lauren Witte and transfers Erinoelle Clifton, Susie Dineen, Haley Johnson and Jaden Thiem.
Head coach Tim Walters is in his first season at the helm of the Omaha women's soccer program after being named head coach in December 2016. Â Walters, who spent six years as an assistant on the UNO men's soccer coaching staff, helped the squad post an overall 29-16-9 (.620) record over the past three seasons, including two Summit League regular-season championships (2014, 2016).
Getting to Know Arkansas
Arkansas ended last season 18-5-1 overall record and an 8-3 mark in SEC play. Â The Razorbacks advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I Tournament in 2016.
The Razorbacks return 14 letterwinners from a year ago, including 12 starters and six fourth-year players. Eight of those starters scored at least one goal in 2016 and each recorded three or more points.
In the first national soccer poll released this preseason, the United Soccer Coaches ranked Arkansas No. 17, two spots higher than where it finished the 2016 season.
