Abby Meader’s Golden Goal Lifts Omaha over Missouri State

OMAHA, Neb. - Abby Meader delivered the game-winning tally in overtime to give the Omaha women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Missouri State on Friday night. The Mavericks improved to 1-4-1 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Bears drop to 2-5 (0-0 MVC).
Meader's goal completed an Omaha come-from-behind victory over Missouri State. It marked her first goal of the year and first career game-winner. Emily Romero earned the assist on the clincher.
Missouri State took the lead in the 29th minute as Kayleigh Putnam headed home a cross from Brooke Zimmerman.
Omaha withstood the Bear attack in the first half, fending off 10 MSU shots while the Mavericks managed just two shot attempts in the opening 45 minutes.
Turning Point
The Mavericks bounced back to knot the score 1-1 early in the second half as Meader slipped a long pass behind the Bears defense to Natalie Johnson. The Omaha native received the ball and then slotted home the game-tying goal.

"What a response by the team in the second half. Culturally, that is what our program needs to continue to be about. We had outstanding accountability and leadership from our upper classmen, and we out worked them in the second half and overtime. I'm so proud of the team for how they responded and overcame some adversity with being down 1-0 at halftime."
