Scouting the Montana State Bobcats
Montana State is 1-5 (0-0 Big Sky) after its third straight road game -- a 90-68 loss at Arkansas Wednesday night. Tyler Hall led all players with 29 points on 10-of-20 shooting with seven 3-pointers.
MSU, which finished 13-19 (6-12 Big Sky) a year ago, was picked sixth in the conference's preseason coaches' poll and fifth in the media poll. Hall is a three-time All-Big Sky selection, having earned third-team honors last season, while Harald Frey was an honorable mention pick in 2017-18. Hall ranks 30th nationally for total points and 29th for 3-pointers per game (3.7), and he has taken the second-most 3-point attempts of any player in the country (63).
Head coach Brian Fish is in his fifth season at MSU and has a career record of 51-80.
All-Time Against Montana State
Omaha holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series with Montana State, including 2-0 at Baxter Arena. The two teams last met on Nov. 10, 2017, with the Bobcats picking up an 89-80 overtime win in Great Falls, Mont.
For his career against MSU, Zach Jackson has averaged 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting .558 from the field. JT Gibson has also averaged double figures against MSU with 10.0 ppg.
Battling the Big Sky
Saturday's meeting with Montana State marks the eighth meeting of Omaha's Division I era against Big Sky competition. Omaha is 5-2 against members of the conference since 2011-12.
Last Time Out: Mavericks Surge to 76-56 Comeback Win at Bethune-Cookman
Omaha overcame a 15-point deficit Tuesday night to earn its first road win of the season, defeating preseason MEAC favorite Bethune-Cookman 76-56 at Moore Gymnasium. JT Gibson was Omaha's leading scorer for the second straight game, finishing with a career-high-tying 21 points. The junior hit three 3-pointers and went 8-of-8 at the free throw line while adding two rebounds, three assists and three steals for the night.
Zach Jackson tallied in double figures for the fifth straight game, posting his third 20-point performance of the season with 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Matt Pile narrowly missed a double-double with a season-high 14 points, nine rebounds, a block and a steal. KJ Robinson chipped in 10 points, three boards, a team-best four assists and a steal.
Mitch Hahn pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and had eight points, two assists, two steals and a block.
Omaha shot .429 (24-of-56) to Bethune-Cookman's .420 (21-of-50) from the field and .800 (24-of-30) to BCU's .471 (8-of-17) at the line. The Mavericks owned the glass by a margin of 39-30 and forced 18 Wildcat turnovers, which resulted in 23 points off miscues.

Senior guard Zach Jackson ranked in the top five in the Summit League last season for scoring, field goal percentage, field goals made and free throws made, averaging 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Over the first five games this season, he has a team-leading 19.6 points with 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He ranks as the fourth-best scorer in the Summit League and is third for total steals (10).
The Wichita, Kan., native opened the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back 20-point performances, and he led the Mavericks in scoring in three straight games to start the year.
Feelin' Hahn, Hahn, Hahn
Senior forward Mitch Hahn scored in double figures in three straight games to open the season, totaling 14 points at Minnesota (Nov. 6), 11 vs. Buena Vista (Nov. 9) and 10 vs. Northern Arizona (Nov. 14). He also owns two games with a trio of 3-pointers, hitting three apiece against Minnesota and Northern Arizona.
Hahn returned to the Maverick lineup last January after more than seven weeks out due to a shoulder injury. From Jan. 25 to March 3, the Fremont, Neb., native averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, and his effort against Oral Roberts (Feb. 22) included a season-high 23 points with 9-of-14 shooting and five 3-pointers.

The Wichita, Kan., native scored in double figures in all but three games in 2017-18, including 12 performances with 20+ points and four double-doubles. From his freshman campaign to his junior year, Jackson evolved into an all-league player and last year became the sixth Maverick in the Division I era to score 500+ points in a single season.
Milestones in the Making for Jackson

Jackson also has 418 rebounds over his career, needing 82 to become the 12th player in school history with at least 1,000 points and 500 boards.

Junior guard JT Gibson has been on a tear in leading Omaha in scoring the last two games, averaging 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per contest. At Colorado (Nov. 16), he had 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six boards, three assists and two steals, then followed with a career-high-tying 21 points with two rebounds, three assists and three steals at Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 20).
In 2017-18, Gibson was fourth on the team for scoring with 10.2 points per game and had 16 double-figure scoring efforts. He finished the year as Omaha's triples leader with 57, and he owned 18 performances with two or more treys.
With 116 career assists to his credit, Gibson is Omaha's active career leader in the category.
