BROOKINGS, S.D. - Omaha track and field completed the second day of the South Dakota State Classic on Saturday.
Willa Koenig posted the 3rd fastest indoor 5,000 meter time in Omaha history in 17:51.94, and finished 14th.
"Willa was able to capitalize today on a great opportunity. The field at SDSU was a fast one, which set her up perfectly to run a great time," said assistant coach Cliff Cisar who coaches the distance runners. "She's extremely fit and we've been working very diligently on some speed to allow her to push towards that next level on the track. I'm very thrilled with how she competed and we know that this is just the beginning for her."
Sasha Quattlebaum finished 11th in the triple jump with a best mark of 35 feet 9 inches (10.92 meters).
Anna Edet finished 12th in the weight toss with a mark of 56 feet 4 inches (17.18 meters), just less than two inches under her recently-set school record.
In the mile, Renata Valquier Chavez ran a season best time in 5:23.04.
Daylee Olson ran a season best and near personal best in the 400 meter in 1:00.91.
Lauren Houston took 12th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:15.04, a new season best.
Next up for the Mavericks is the last regular season meet before the Summit League Championships. The team will be in Lincoln next Friday, Feb. 16 for the Nebraska Tune-Up. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
